We are a Kindergarten and Long Day care centre that accommodates children from the ages of 6 weeks to 12 years, providing After School Care and Vacation Care services over the school term breaks. Our hours of operation are from 7:30am to 5:00pm Monday until Friday. We are closed for four weeks over the Christmas holidays.

Educators provide quality education and care every day through our enriched play-based programs where children’s voices are valued and agency is promoted.

Community is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to build strong relationships with local families and actively participate in community events and celebrations that help children develop a genuine sense of belonging and connection.

We respectfully acknowledge the Gunggari people, the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we live, learn and play. We celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and are committed to ensuring every child and family feels respected, included and valued. Weekly visits from Aunty Dessy enrich our educational program, providing authentic opportunities for children to learn about local culture, language, stories and traditions while developing a deep respect for Australia's First Nations peoples.

My name is Lynda Dorries, and I am the director of Mitchell EEC. I have worked in childcare for 12 years. I am one of six children and I have five children of my own, so I am always kept very busy. Being a single mum, I don’t have a lot of spare time, but when I do, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. My weekends are usually spent being an energetic supporter of my children playing football. I like that my role is so diverse and differs every day; nothing makes me feel better than the children yelling my name and greeting me with a big hug and smile in the mornings. I enjoy building positive relationships with the families and my work family and feel privileged to see the different personalities of children and be a part of their individual learning journeys.

MEET OUR TEACHER/ EDUCATIONAL LEADER!

My name is Emily Field, and I am the ECT and Educational Leader at Mitchell EEC.

I believe Early Childhood Education and Care is a unique and meaningful time in each child’s life. I see my role as a teacher to work alongside families to nurture curiosity, confidence, and a strong sense of belonging.

Play based and enquiry based learning is at the centre of my teaching practice. Projects with children, allow children to investigate ideas deeply. I believe in carefully listening to children and observing children to create a rich program with a rich learning environment.

I value strong community partnerships. My practice is guided by reflection and an ongoing commitment to professional development.

Our Philosophy

We acknowledge the Gunggari people as the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, work, play and learn. We recognise the right of each child, especially First Nations children, to be included and valued, and we embrace the learning available to us from diverse cultural backgrounds. We are committed to developing cultural competence to promote understanding, communication, and equity for all. 

We are strongly connected to our community; we are actively involved in local events and wider community significant days. We understand that we play a role in supporting the Mitchell community, and we recognise the generous support the community offers us. We value the contributions of our wider daycare community and support involvement in the service through our ‘open door policy.’ 

The best interests of children are the focus of our service. We provide care that protects our children from harm, whilst building a strong sense of identity through respecting their dignity, individual needs, and privacy. The children’s health and safety are paramount to our daily practices.

We work alongside families to give each child a great start in life to improve their future prospects and reach their full potential. We invite families to contribute to our service through weekly questions and significant events.

We support children in their interactions with others and support educating them in becoming effective communicators.

Our program and practice are guided by the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines, Early Years Learning Framework, the National Quality Standards, My Time Our Place, and the 8 Aboriginal Ways of Learning. We strive to develop and improve our program and practice through a collaborative approach which includes children, families, educators, the environment and the community. 

We view both the indoor and outdoor learning environments as spaces where children learn and develop. We respect the natural and man-made environment and aim to cultivate sustainable living practices through following nature pedagogy in our indoor and outdoor spaces.

We are committed to improving staff mental health and wellbeing, through team building and positive encouragement. Management and staff work together with mutual respect and learn from each other, recognising each other’s strengths and skills and providing support when needed.

We aim to offer quality education and care. Our Quality Improvement Plan identifies strengths as well as areas we need to develop.

  • Molly enjoys seeing Aunty Dessy out in the community after she’s been to visit the kindy. This engagement at the kindy is very positive and engaging. Molly also enjoys movin monkeys and has learnt some moves to show us at home.

  • Yes!! Over my 5 years being at the service with 2 children I feel the educators are supportive which creates a comfortable environment for them!! My children love the staff and the centre and get sad when I tell them it’s not a “school day”

  • it's great to see so many at the kindy where most place don't have many. eg worm farm, the new recycling bin, the food scraps to the chooks and worm and using the eggs from the chooks, and always using milk cartons and things for the children's activities
