We understand we play a role in education supporting children and families of Cunnamulla community. We feel connected to our community, and we want our community to connect with us.

We recognise the right of each child, especially First Nations children, to be included and valued, and we embrace the learning available to us from diverse cultural backgrounds. We have a strong partnership with community leaders, who support all children to participate in the Kindergarten program.  We are committed to developing cultural competence to promote understanding, communication and equity. We respect the rich history of the land we stand upon, and its custodians, and the knowledge they have to pass on to us.  

We aim to provide high-quality education. Our curriculum is informed by the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and Early Years Learning Framework. We strive to develop our curriculum through a collaborative process which includes children, families, educators, the environment and the community.  

Our educators play an important role in supporting children’s learning and development within the context of our play-based environment. We believe it is important to maintain a balance between child led and child-initiated learning which is supported by thoughtful and intentional teaching.

We encourage mixed-age play as we understand the value of children learning from, and with, each other.

We support children in their interactions with others and assist in teaching the children to be effective communicators.

We provide care that protects our children from harm whilst building a strong sense of identity through respecting each child's dignity, individual needs and privacy.

We view both the indoor and outdoor environments as spaces in which children learn and develop. We are committed to sustainable practices. We believe in teaching and modelling how to care for, explore and respect the natural environment.

We are actively involved in local events and wider community special days.

We work alongside families to give each child a great start in life to improve their life chances and reach their full potential.  

We recognise the importance of strong mental health and wellbeing for children, families and educators.

Management and staff work together with mutual respect and learn from each other, recognising each other’s strengths and skills and providing support when needed. We understand that learning is an ongoing process for educators as well as children. Gidgee Kids educators are life-long learners who understand the complexities of living in remote rural communities.

We believe that a philosophy statement is a ‘living document’ and is ever changing as new insights are gained and current practices are reflected upon and evaluated. Our Quality Improvement Plan identifies our strengths as well as areas we need to develop.
